One way of entering Homdor is by the hanging bridge of Flowergale: a broad wooden bridge with an intermediary station where I was welcomed by a group of fellow bards who, upon laying eyes on me, henceforth began singing and playing their instruments, but said nothing more.
The town has two particular features which are evident immediately, even before stepping off the high bridge: colorful dome-shaped houses and fragrant, pink flowers. Viewed from the bridge, the town reminds of a garden, which has unexpectedly sprouted some domiciles. (The name of the town may well stem from Old French gale “merriment.”) Flowergale is a boisterous, larky place, filled with colorful characters and exotic visitors. One feels as if an outrageous surprise lurks “just behind the corner” — any corner.
Upon entering, I was offered a number of strange things:
- a guide for the “Stairs of Destiny,” an ascension path also known as the Stairway to Heaven,
- a Distractor, which is evidently some sort of companion, whereas I am unsure as to what the purpose of such an associate may be,
- the cure for all ailments,
- a pet snake who allegedly whispers formulas and recipes while one is asleep,
- a path-clearer for my further journey, which sounded intriguing though I currently don’t suppose to require such services.
